It is very much a young persons hangout (18-19 yr olds) and reminded us very much of freshers halls at university both in atmosphere and quality of accomodation. If you are of this age and backpacking with a group of friends then it is probably best for you. AVOID if you are a couple, family or older than this agegroup as you may not enjoy it. Bathrooms were old and grotty, not sure how often they were cleaned but the shower had mould and a dirty shower curtain. All in all australia is very expensive at the moment (2012) and so with regards accomodation you dont really get what you pay for.
The location is in central Sydney
The toilets were smelly, the room smellt of damp, no facilities, everything was very small and cramped.
790 on george st is really a nice backpack! not expensive, quiet, clean... and so friendly atmosphere! Near to central buses and trains stations perfect to backpackers who want visit this really attractive city. Again thanks so much to the friendly team!!!
I liked being able to meet so many new people from all over the world, and the proximity to central station was ideal.
The bathrooms were a little gross, and the elevator scared me with how slow and rickety it was.
staff were friendly
Internet was unreliable and room was dirty
The location to the central railway station.
The lack of cleanliness, but most of them due to unrespectul travellers.
Clean, we'll located. Friendly and helpful staff. 2 minutes walk from Central Station.
Wifi wasn't free. Cost $1AUS per hour. The pub Scubar next door could be very noisy towards the weekend. Laundry was expensive $4AUS per wash and the same again to tumble dry
Great location, good price, helpful staff, good facilities (kitchen and TV room library).
I arrived early (9.00am) and left late (2.00pm) and so had to store my bag twice at $6 each time = $12 on top of the accommodation cost, bit disappointing as I had expected there to be 'free' storage facilities like most hotels.
There was a lift service, even though its slow, if you got one bag, just walk up yourself, but its good when you have a lot of baggage! Saves walking up the flight of stairs!. The other good thing about this place is the location, very quick less then a few minutes walk to central station and all the food places around.
I didnt like the use of the card to get in out of the rooms, mine didnt work properly and it was very annoying. I thought the staff who checked me in was quite rude, he was very snatchy and didnt tell me anything about the room or where anything was. But the day staff was a lot nicer and friendly. Apart from everything else, a great budget stay for a few nights, i would stay there again though.
Location is perfect, right next to central trainstation and Chinatown (cheap food). Nice common area in basement.
790 on George was very clean, and the private twin room was very comfortable for a backpackers'. The shared bathroom was clean and convenient, and the 2nd floor lounge with computers and the lockers in the basement level were great. The location is fantastic, and although I had to sleep with earplugs to cut the sound of other people on the same floor opening and closing doors and talking on mobile phones, it was a really enjoyable place to stay. I loved that our room had a view over the street and towards the city and Central Station. I would consider choosing this backpackers' over the nearby budget hotels.
The airport shuttle service seemed dodgy -- we booked a shuttle and it arrived half an hour late; when we asked staff to check the booking just before it eventually arrived, we were told the shuttle had actually failed to pick passengers up frequently in the recent past. It would have been helpful to be told this before booking our tickets. Luckily, we had time to spare before our flight, but I'm sure other clients haven't been so lucky. Up to this time, all the counter staff we'd dealt with had been very friendly and helpful, but the staff we spoke to after booking the shuttle were terse and unhelpful.
The location is near the train station, which is convenient for travellers to visit other places.
location is good, quiet.
services is not good enough, room is small, not clean enough.
I slept 8 hours and took 2 showers in this hostel, I was all the time around Sydney so I can't make a response. It has a good quality/price
Basic hostel without luxury, but comfortable enough.
The hostel is fairly clean, but maintenance could be better, it looks a little run down (carpets in the hallways were not great, bit of mould in the showers, the usual). You need a key to get into your room, but everyone can just walk into the hostel, step into the elevator and wander around until they find an open door, so I wasn't too sure if it is safe. Nothing happened to us though.
